Mark 2: 13-17

(Mark 2: 13-17) And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.  And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphæus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.  And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.  And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?  When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

 

Serie and sinners are condemned by all. Jesus called Matthew, the tax collector, and the tax collectors and sinners came to Jesus from his house. Then the Pharisees gossiped and said, "Why does your teacher catch with tax collectors and sinners?" The Pharisees were dissatisfied with Jesus eating food with tax collectors and sinners. The Pharisees thought that the Messiah would come to them first when they came to Israel, and they were dissatisfied with Jesus' eating with sinners. They thought they were not sinners. This is because the Jews, especially the Pharisees and scribes, have lived with the idea that they are respected by the law and recognized as righteous by God. So Jesus said, "I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."

All people are sinners against God. The spirit is dead. In Ephesians 2:1, "you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 』 It means that all people are dead by spirit. In 2:2, 『Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 』 Because they follow the customs of the world, they are dead to God. All who Jesus is not the master are dead. Even if you go to church, if you are following the world, the owner is the devil.

In Ephesians 2:3, 『Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. This is saying that it was not a child of love, but a child of wrath.
