Mark 16: 17-18
(Mark 16: 17-18)
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast
out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if
they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on
the sick, and they shall recover.
Today, you can hardly
see these signs: “He who believes and is
baptized will be saved.” But the disciples said to him,
“Lord, add faith to us.” Jesus
said, “If there is as much as a mustard seed, move the
mountain. Mustard seeds are very small. He tells people that there is no such
belief.
In Mark 9:23『Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all
things are possible to him that believeth.』 This
is the faith Jesus wants. However, in verse 24, 『And
straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I
believe; help thou mine unbelief. Peter got out of the boat and walked on the
sea. When we look at the Lord, we become one with the Lord. The day Peter
walked on the sea was the day Jesus performed "five miracles of barley
bread." Tell them that even if a miracle happens, it does not connect with
faith. It means that miracles are the result of faith and fruit, not the source
of faith.
We are saved
only when we believe that Jesus was resurrected, but He did not show the
resurrection to anyone. The faith of those who belong to the resurrection is
the faith of those who are born again. Those who are born again have the
resurrection of Jesus as a new life, but those who are not born again know only
with knowledge. Those who are born again will only happen to those who repent
and deny themselves. The Lord did not show the resurrection to anyone. Even
today, the Lord does not give resurrection life to anyone. It is given only to
the repentant who deny himself.
Many people
misunderstand Pentecostal work. The power of the resurrection was witnessed to
all by the work of the Holy Spirit. But why is there no resurrection life? Do
you just know? Or did it happen to you? This is the difference: "Jesus
said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that
believeth," the child's father exclaimed. 『Immediately the boy's
father exclaimed, "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief"』
The father of this
dead child was exclaimed with tears. When we move forward with all our heart,
"action beyond knowledge, will, and emotion" comes out. He came to
Jesus because of the child who died, but the problem was that he had no faith.
Then he said to Jesus, "I believe." By the way, saying "I believe"
is saying that there is no faith. Perhaps, "I believe" seems to
express his will.
Peter also had a miracle bread that day. Then
he saw the Lord standing on the sea and said, "Lord, if you are the Lord,
command me to come." Peter said, "Lord," but he put on the
condition, "If it is the Lord." Faith is to deny yourself first and
give it to Jesus. Is this possible? What Peter sought was a miracle Jesus.
Those who are
not saved seek only the results of miracle-like faith. Only they seek to go to
heaven. For them, Jesus is not the purpose, but Jesus is the way. The one whom
Jesus is aiming for dies on the cross with Jesus, but the one who becomes the
way of Jesus is willing to be saved by relying on Jesus' death. It is not
salvation that I hold onto the risen Son of God to go to heaven. But the
repentant holds Jesus on the cross.
Those who do
not repent are "Jesus the way of salvation," and the way to succeed
in this world. Those who killed Jesus are not those who do not know Christ, but
those who have waited for Christ. The Pharisees had great Bible knowledge and
waited for Christ as they worshiped every day. Even today, those who will
persecute the Saints will be companions in the same church. Isaac and Ishmael
cannot be together. Ishmael tries to kill Isaac. Those who do not deny
themselves are like Ishmael in the church.
The child's father
said, "I believe, help me without my faith." You can see that the
front and back words are different. Faith in the front is spoken, and the
latter is indicative of the failure of action. If you believe and be baptized,
you will be saved. But in Acts 8:13,『Then Simon
himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs
which were done. 』 This is Simon the Magician.
But in verse 21, Peter said, "Thou hast neither part nor lot in this
matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God." Simon believed in
Jesus through his deacon Philip, and after being baptized, he followed Philip
wholeheartedly. However, he refused to repent. There is no faith without repentance.
Therefore, to the repentant, in Mark 16:16, “He that
believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be
damned. 』.
The whole
theme of Matthew is to repent. The first chapter of the Gospel of Mark also
says, "It is time, repent and believe the gospel." When you repent,
you are born again with water and the Holy Spirit. Without regenerated life,
everything is only under the law every day. The magician Simon believed in
Jesus and was baptized. He followed Deacon Philip wholeheartedly. But Peter
told Simon, "Repent of evil." It wasn't that said because of the
magic, but the state of the mind.
『Repent therefore of this
thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be
forgiven thee. 』 God does not give confidence
to those who do not repent.
Today, we need to be wary of those who come out of the church and say,
"Without repentance that denies you, you are saved if you believe."
Because it is not the one who saves the spirit, but the one who kills it. They
are guides to hell. The conversation between Simon and Peter shows in verses
22-23『Repent therefore of this
thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be
forgiven thee. For I perceive that thou art in the gall of
bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity. 』
Peter said that
Simon's condition was "full of evil." Even if a person is full of
evil in his heart, he can believe in Jesus and be baptized. People think what
is not evil because they decided to believe in Jesus. If the Holy Spirit speaks
about Mark 16:16『 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved;
but he that believeth not shall be damned. 』 based
on Acts 8, would the Holy Spirit tell the "magic witch Simon" to be
careful? Those who believe and are baptized through repentance to deny
themselves are accompanied by signs because the Lord is with them. It is not
intended to go to heaven, but to build the kingdom of God by relying on the
power of Jesus on earth.
Simon's interest is
to go to heaven in verse 24『 Then answered Simon,
and said, Pray ye to the LORD for me, that none of these things which ye have
spoken come upon me. 』 This Simon doesn't even know
the meaning of repentance. A person who is the owner is a person who does not
know the meaning of repentance. They think that if they confess their sins in
this world, they will be forgiven. You must be repented and freed from your
evil heart to be saved. Repentance is the death of the old man because the old
man wants to be like God.
